Babies love peek-a-boo because they actually think you disappear behind your hands!

The term object permanence is used to describe a child's ability to know that objects continue to exist even though they can no longer be seen or heard.
The concept of object permanence plays an important role in the theory of cognitive development created by psychologist Jean Piaget.
In the sensorimotor stage of development, a period that lasts from birth to about age two, Piaget suggested that children understand the world through their motor abilities such as touch, vision, taste and movement.
Since toddlers lack of object permanence, they don’t know that you are still there hiding behind your hands, and that is why they get so excited when they get to see you again.

The Taliban destroyed ancient Buddha statues. That led to the discovery of an ancient archaeological site!

This cultural desecration shocked the world. There was a silver lining to the destruction though. About 50 caves were discovered behind the statues. In March 2001, in central Afghanistan, the Taliban destroyed two ancient Buddha statues dating back to between the 5th and 6th centuries A.D.
The caves were covered in ancient frescoes from between the 5th and 9th centuries B.C. The paintings were likely painted by Buddhist monks who traveled along the Silk Road. They depict Buddha and other scenes from Buddhist mythology.
Researchers were delighted by this discovery and very surprised to find that some of the paintings were oil paintings. Oil paintings were not thought to have been created until the 14th or 15th century A.D. The oil was probably made from poppy seeds or walnuts.

The Federal Reserve estimates the average life of a dollar bill to be 5.9 years before it wears out and is replaced. The first version of the $1 was printed in 1862. It was larger than today's bill and featured Salmon P. Chase, President Lincoln's Secretary of the Treasury. In 1869, the portrait was changed to that of President Washington who is featured on the bill today.
While you may not feel strongly about the $1 bill, there are organizations that do. Save the Greenbacks is dedicated to preserving the bill while Coin Coalition advocates eliminating the bill and replacing it with a $1 coin.
After the seventh Government Accountability Office report said that switching to a dollar coin would save the US $4.4 billion over 30 years, a House subcommittee met to discuss the change. However, according to polls, the majority of Americans are not in favor or giving up the bill.
